Coastal walks are the biz for building up an appetite. And feeling
the salt spray on your face is life-af昀椀rming stuff. The Canford
in Poole is a great shout for a cobweb-blitzing yomp, with its
beautiful sandy beaches and cracking clifftop views. You can even
get a boat out to nearby Brownsea Island, where you might spy
a red squirrel on your ramble. The Seagate in Appledore has all
that seaside and quayside gorgeousness, but it also boasts two
National Parks and 昀椀ve of昀椀cial Areas of Outstanding Beauty.
It, too, has an offshore gem to explore in the shape of Lundy
Island, a walker’s rugged paradise.
If your Sunday soft spot is romping around the English countryside,
the Bedford Arms is nestled in the beautiful Chess Valley. Here, in
the heart of the Chilterns, there’s stunning scenery as far as the eye
can see. More lush landscapes can be found if you head out west
into the Cotswolds. Delve deep between the rolling
hills, and you’ll discover our three village beauties:
the Wheatsheaf Inn, The Bell and the White Hart.
If you’re staying with us in the city, don’t go thinking you won’t
get your fresh-air 昀椀x. There are plenty of green expanses in
London for leg stretching (if you have two or four). For instance,
the Dog & Fox sits nicely near Wimbledon Common, an urban
wilderness with 140 acres of woodland, heathland and recreation
areas. And there’s another famous common in Clapham, which
is even nearer the town centre. The Windmill pub sits right on
the edge of it, putting 85 hectares (if you know what a hectare is)
literally on your doorstep.
