New & Coming Soon
Phil Harris
He’s the tireless team captain at The Bull
in delightful Ditchling, East Sussex.
Phil is a Liverpudlian lad, but he’s been moving further south all his
life. He 昀椀nally settled down in sunny Sussex three years ago, and he
says he’s here to stay.
When he’s not working hard, you’ll 昀椀nd Phil down on the beach
enjoying a swim with his wife, children and dog or playing 5-a-side
footy with his deputy manager. And when he’s not kicking a ball
around, he’s kicking back in the pub with a pint.
Phil’s always been a pub-loving guy, but landlording wasn’t his 昀椀rst
calling. He originally wanted to be 昀椀re昀椀ghter (but quickly realised he
didn’t like heights or small spaces). Since then, he’s done all sorts of
things (one of his 昀椀rst jobs was selling hair products).
The desire to become a publican was sparked during a late-night
conversation in Tuscany over a glass of wine (or several – he can’t
quite remember). And he loves it – not just because the job 昀椀ts into
his family life, but because The Bull draws all kinds of people, and he
enjoys creating a happy place where everyone can have a great
time together.
And it’s not just about pulling pints and jolly banter. Phil is a great
one for rolling up his sleeves and getting stuck into whatever needs
doing, whether it’s 昀椀xing doorknobs, varnishing tables, or rescuing
locals caught in a blizzard on Ditchling Beacon.
Phil’s also super-proud to be the custodian of his lovely
old pub. The Bull has been around for over four centuries,
and countless people have been fed and watered there over
the years. Returning guests all have stories and experiences of
the place, and Phil just loves to hear them. He’s looking forward
to hearing your stories, too.
We have new pubs popping up all the time (and all over the place).
It means there’s more chance there’ll be one right where you need it.
And we’re smartening up existing pubs all the time so they’re shipshape
when you visit. To keep you up to speed, here’s a quick rundown of our
latest openings and refurbings.
Two new arrivals on the scene
The White Hart in Ford near Chippenham is a perfect addition to the
Young’s family – a hands-down gem of a historic coaching inn with bags
of character in a take-your-breath-away rural location. The White Lion is
another jewel to add to our ever-growing collection of lovely country pubs.
It’s tucked away in the depths of Kent in the adorable town of Tenterden.
Both these beauties are very welcome on board.
An all-new look for The Lamb in Hindon
The Lamb pub in the chocolate-box village of Hindon has been around
since the 12th century, but you have to agree it’s looking fantastic for its age.
Especially now it’s just had a full refurbishment and its 18 rooms have had
some thoughtful design tweaks and TLC.
The Bedford Arms is having a makeover
This dearly loved village pub is getting the full treatment. And, trust us, that
takes a while, so it won’t be open again until mid-November. But the wait’ll
be worth it, we promise (you can get a sneaky peak on social). And in the
meantime, you can still book your festive get-togethers for when the
doors reopen.
