YORK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
YOUNG PERSON’S CONCERT
Inspired by Leonard Bernstein’s famous Young
People’s Concerts with the New York Philharmonic,
Assistant Conductor, Rebekah O’Brien creates
this special youth program featuring Prokofiev’s
Peter and the Wolf. The Young Person’s Concert
introduces students to the instruments of the
orchestra and tells the story of Peter’s adventures
through music.
YORK SUMMER MUSIC ACADEMY
The York Summer Music Academy is a middle and
high school vocal and instrumental experience
designed to complement the school music
curriculum of students in the greater York county
region. YSMA highlights a collaboration between
the York Symphony and York College. Rebekah
O’Brien, Assistant Conductor of the York Symphony
Orchestra will conduct the Academy ensembles.
Instructors are members of the York Symphony
Orchestra and/or the faculty of York College.
IN-SCHOOL PERFORMANCES
Elementary students from are given a chance to
see professional York Symphony musicians in
action right in their schools. The chamber concert
is a dynamic performance that engages with the
young audience. In-school Performances are all a
part of this invaluable education experience.
