HAITI
Established 2010
According to USAID, a staggering 80% of teachers in Hai琀椀 lack
pre-service training, with half lacking basic quali昀椀ca琀椀ons for
their roles. 75 percent of 1st graders and 50% of 2nd graders
struggle to read a single word, underscoring the dire state of
educa琀椀on in Hai琀椀. These poor learning outcomes perpetuate
a cycle of high dropout and repe琀椀琀椀on rates, severely impac琀椀ng
genera琀椀ons of Hai琀椀ans.
The repercussions are profound: adults are le昀琀 without access
to educa琀椀on, perpetua琀椀ng a cycle of reduced earning power and
昀椀nancial instability. Consequently, they struggle to a昀昀ord school fees for
their own children, perpetua琀椀ng the cycle of educa琀椀onal depriva琀椀on and its
adverse e昀昀ects on the economy. Years of missed schooling have become a grim reality
for many Hai琀椀ans, shaping their lives in profound ways.

The Hai琀椀an society is grappling with unprecedented violence and a na琀椀onal con昀氀ict
that has created a tangible sense of fear. To help mi琀椀gate the paralysis felt by so many
to be able to change the poli琀椀cal system, we ini琀椀ated new programs to support young
people trying to build a life for themselves and provide them with coping skills to
overcome mul琀椀-faceted adversity.
In 2023, we conducted training sessions for 250 students across 昀椀ve schools in our
Youth Club ini琀椀a琀椀ve. These sessions equipped students with vital interpersonal
communica琀椀on skills, hygiene prac琀椀ces, community engagement strategies, and
tools for self-awareness. Encouragingly, school directors have observed a marked
improvement in the youths’ a琀tudes and personal growth, signaling the program’s
e昀케cacy in fostering responsible behavior among the younger genera琀椀on.
WWO Hai琀椀 also remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering Element of Play®
training programs to children and youth, while also providing essen琀椀al training to
teachers, parents, and caregivers. Through these concerted e昀昀orts, we strive to break
the cycle of educa琀椀onal depriva琀椀on, empowering Hai琀椀an communi琀椀es to build a
brighter future for genera琀椀ons to come.
