Finney Vol. 1 - Immutable Journey - Flipbook - Page 92
Connected to the Cryptowriter device,
its power button engaged, Finney didn’t
know what to expect. Nothing happened
at first. He feared the device was just
another dead end. But then the device
came to life.
There was a flash in Finney’s awareness,
as if data was going from the device
directly into his processor. Something
indescribable overcame him. Shifting,
intricate patterns of light and sounds he’d
never heard before twisted his attention
in unfamiliar ways. “The information is
made of bees and they’re dancing,” he
whispered, feeling almost as if the words
had come from someone else. “I can’t
even describe it.”
The world around Finney became
distorted, then faded into irrelevance. His
ruined spaceship was forgotten, as were
all the difficulties he’d so far encountered
on his mission. In their place, Finney
found information about cryptocurrencies
and blockchain technologies. Detailed
information. Complete information. It
was all Finney had hoped to find and
more.
Soon, Finney was swimming in expert
opinions from across the blockchain space,
each one like a channel he could tune
into to learn more about crypto. He soon
discovered why millions trusted Bitcoin to
store value outside the legacy banking
system. He learned how decentralized
finance applications on Ethereum were
disrupting markets. He learned that EOS
could be used for zero fee international
remittances and that VeChain promised
to solve long standing problems with
supply chains.
Absorbed in this material from
Cryptowriter’s experts, Finney came to
a realization. He realized that he would
never know everything there was to know
92
about crypto. When he’d set off on this
mission, Finney thought he could just find
all the information he was looking for,
commit it to memory, and return home
with it. Now, he understood the folly
of such thinking. The crypto ecosystem
was simply too big and complex for that.
No single voice could ever speak for it.
Making sense of crypto meant listening
to many voices.
“I’ve been thinking so much about me
and my learning, I forgot that crypto is
all about we,” said Finney. “It’s about
making things better together.”
This thought led Finney to consider the
Cryptowriter device in a new light. It
wasn’t just a source of information, it was
a connection to a community of a kind
he’d never before encountered. “They’re
all working together to bring me the best
content from all the blockchains,” he
said, noticing new articles and podcasts
becoming available even as he spoke.
“And they’re updating their feeds
constantly.”
Eventually, Finney put the Cryptowriter
device down, considered his situation,
and called his girlfriend Snap.
“Hi Finney,” said Snap. “Calling so soon?
Did something happen?”
Finney didn’t know where to start. “Lots
of things happened,” he said. “But the
two most important ones are why I’m
calling.”
“Okay,” said Snap, some skepticism in
her voice.
“Well, the bad thing is that my ship is
broken and I can’t come home,” said
Finney. “Someone stole all of the gold
off of the ship. Every last scrap. I think
it was Mr Shift.”
