LOVE
Wednesday‘s Word
“When we experience the love of God, we are more
able to share this with our neighbour.” Pope Francis
What did Jesus say was the first commandment? Loving God first, with all our heart,
helps us to be more loving to one another. Is Jesus asking the impossible when he
says that we should love others as we love ourselves? Ask your child what they think
it means to love like this. You may also want to tell your child what you think it means
to love others as we love ourselves. Perhaps it is: being more patient, tolerant and
understanding; forgiving others; treating people as your equal – treating them the way
you would like to be treated yourself. Ask your child who they know that loves like this.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that our love for God is also made known through
the way that we love others. God wants us to love each other with just as much love as
we have for ourselves. Each of you choose a special way in which you will show your love
for God and for each other this week. This Friday, 1st November, is the Feast of ‘All Saints’
– a Holy Day of Obligation. On this day the Church especially remembers all those who are
already in heaven. Why not, as a family, come along to Church to learn more about God’s
love? All are warmly invited.
