The Single
Reason Why
by Viruli Ratnaweera
Mother, I was your son that satisoed,
I wasn9t the child you took in stride.
Forgetting my dreams, I won your pride,
For all your aims, I abide.
In your eyes your son was nonexistent,
But a high-nying droid, who was consistent.
Mother, I was human, if you ever pondered,
Not an academic machine who got a high hundred.
If you9re reading this, I know you9re wondering why,
You9re wondering about the million reasons why.
The reasons lie deep within my soul,
In the labyrinth of thoughts that take their toll.
But let me tell you, there9s only a single reason why,
A whisper in the dark, a silent cry.
It9s not your fault, don9t carry that weight,
Not the people or the means, was inevitable fate.
It9s the burden of expectations, the weight of despair,
It9s the feeling of rejection, the unanswered prayer.
You9re wondering, was it depression that got me?
No mother, it was the loneliness I needed to nee.
