When all becomes gray.
In these shades of orange, red and brown,
Some lives are touched, some are broken down.
White flakes will bury the old withered leaf,
A life only remembered by the ink on this sheaf.
Winter goes by, before long Spring comes alive A dazzling beauty, with no want of supply.
In these seasons of tears, despair and the blues,
Primaveral joy will make all lives anew.
With promising ideas of a fresh start to ensue,
I walk in the woods to find things out of view.
I listen for silence - a void so very loud,
I listen for whispers - none can be found.
But just at the moment when I turn around,
I see a sight in the first of morning light.
A bird is swimming in an orange-streaked sky,
Wings aflutter in rapturous flight;
I feel it makes me feel alright.
It swoops along the curving trees
It turns and dives down with the breeze.
Gracefully it picks up an old withered leaf,
And places the object in a nest-keeping tree.
The Sun and the sky both swallow them up,
Two kindred beings, both finally free.
