had a voice, agonized screams would
fill the air.
Maybe being the prettiest isn’t always
a good thing.
Months pass after this incident,
and ever so slowly the glow of the
Sun through the glass windows is
too much to bear, and an excess of
fertilizer never seems to be enough;
my time was coming. Flowers had
come and gone, and here I still was,
witness of horrible events, never
beautiful enough to be wanted. It
was time to make peace with the
fact that I would die within these
four walls. This glass pavilion and
neighbouring flowers are all I’d ever
known. I told myself I would rather
spend the rest of my days happy with
them, than searching for validation
from inhumane humans.
This would be a nice way to die.
I was drifting asleep to these sombre
thoughts when I was jolted by the
sound of my name, coming from… a
human’s mouth?
“Azalea…

exclaimed.
azalea!”

I tilted my weary face up to see him.
He was so close I could see flecks of
gold in the blue of his eyes. “I’m sure
she’ll love you.” With that, he reached
out and picked me up.
