“I’m gonna miss you too, Alls,” she
says smiling at me, taking her hand
in mine. We have always had a closer
relationship with each other than
either of us has with Grace. Grace has
always been the take-along little sister,
whom we both love, but Syrena and
I have always been like each other’s
best friend.
“New York isn’t too far away,” Syrena
says as she rubs her thumb against
the back of my hand. I know this
statement is more for herself than
for me, but I respond,
“I know. It’ll still be so hard not to
see you every day, though.” Syrena
got accepted to the New York Film
Academy. It was her first choice
school, her dream has always been
to become an actress on Broadway.
Though it’s amazing she got in, New
York is so far away and it’s been hard
for our whole family to let her go.
Our parents are driving her there
tomorrow with Grace and I, but
Syrena wanted to have one last family
camping trip before she left.
“Yeah,” Syrena whispers, holding
back tears, “It’s going to be really
weird and different.”
“Yeah, who will I come to for boy
advice?” I joke. Syrena laughs but
then gets serious again,
