The man in the coat
shook his head. “She’s on
too many meds to even
think,” he frowned, “but
it’ll wear off in a couple
hours.”
The guy with orange eyes
nodded. “Did you run
the tests? Or must I do
everything myself?” He
had a clear, monotone
voice that chilled me
for reasons I didn’t
understand.
“Yes,” the man paused and
looked down. He seemed
uncomfortable, his eyes
darting nervously.
“And?”
He hesitated again. “She’s

“Good,” the guy with
the orange eyes tilted
his head to the side. He
studied the person and
the doctor quivered under
the orange-eyed man’s
pending gaze. “Then what
is the problem?”
The man fidgeted with
his hands. “Well, it’s
just…” he gulped, “even if
she wasn’t, why couldn’t
we have used her? She’s
powerful,
it
doesn’t
matter what she is.”
