The Museum of the Gulf Coast takes an eclectic look at
Southeast Texas history through the ages. The museum boasts
the largest indoor mural in the area, highlighting significant
events in the evolution of the region, a replica of Janis Joplin’s
psychedelic Porsche, the original Fresnel lens from the Sabine
Pass Lighthouse, music hall of fame, and rare decorative
artifacts from around the world. Recognition of local legends
such as Jimmy Johnson fill the sports hall of fame, and a
gallery houses works by modern artist, Robert Rauschenberg.

FIRE MUSEUM OF TE X A S

This tribute to firefighters houses a collection of antique
engines and firefighting equipment dating back to the
1800s. Kids can dress up in firefighter uniforms and drive
the fire engine simulator.

Gator Country provides a chance for all visitors to feed
and have hands-on interaction with live alligators. The
adventure park and rescue sanctuary is home to 400+
alligators, crocodiles, caiman, and many other reptiles.
Hours: Daily, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Shows: 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4
p.m. Closed Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.

Beaumont’s early claim to fame - the Lucas Gusher at Spindletop Hill - is
authentically reproduced in this period museum of the early oil boom
town. See a working replica oil gusher, a general store, a dry goods store,
a log cabin saloon, and a barbershop, among other buildings.
