PermitsVisa &VIS provides help, assistance and the necessaryinformation in order to register with theAustrian authorities or to obtain a residencepermit for Austria. There are costs associatedwith the registration and obtaining thisresidence permit (and its renewal), which arenot borne by VIS. These may be claimed againstthe next year’s tax return. VIS teaching staff arenot required to obtain work permits.EU passport holders (including Iceland,Liechtenstein, Norway,and Switzerland) canenter Austria at any time. They do not requirea residence permit but need to get registeredwith the Vienna city authorities.All non-EU citizens require a residence permitfor Austria. In order to receive the relevantresidence title, several administrative steps haveto be taken. VIS will provide information on thisprocess, as well as help and assistance with theofficial registration procedures but supportingdocuments will have to be provided by theteacher.Public documents like birth certificates,marriage certificates, police clearances andqualification certificates from teachers andtheir dependents have to be provided in anauthenticated version (“legalisation”) so thatthey can be used internationally.Accompanying family members (dependents)also have to apply for residence permits. Onlymarried partners will be considered as familymembers and can obtain a residence permit.13
