Proprietary blends,
and why you should
avoid them.
Proprietary blends do not
disclose each ingredient by name
or by dose. Typically, they contain
a higher proportion of cheaper
ingredients (or fillers) and can
vary from batch to batch. As a
result, determining potency or
efficacy is impossible. In addition,
it makes it difficult to track down
the cause of an allergic reaction,
insensitivity, or another reaction.
These “blends” allow companies
to change the ratio of ingredients
without updating the label. While
this practice is good for their profit
margins, it is not necessarily good
for the end consumer.

individual ingredients
are not listed by dose.
