Phase III: Your New Employee’s Day Two – (First Day with the
Department)
It is not the time to overwhelm your new employee, but he or she is excited to get started. Do
not assume that your new employee will come in perfect and knowing everything. You hired
the best person for the job, but that person still needs guidance.
Sample Day Two Schedule
This is a sample of how your new employee’s Day Two (First Day with the Department) might look like.
Using this schedule can help you check off some boxes in the Day Two checklist. However, it is important
to remember that every employee and situation is different.
Important Note: The information covered—as well as the timeline—is important, but you have the final
decision on whether or not to cover everything exactly as prescribed. For example, if your department has
a department specific training that your new employee needs to complete before beginning his/her job then
this Day Two schedule might be more appropriate as Day Three or a future date.
