CATTAIL MARSH
PADDLING ACROSS THE NECHES
Bird-watchers and nature-lovers will truly enjoy the
breathtaking Cattail Marsh Scenic Wetlands and
Boardwalk. During the early morning hours, the fog rolls
across the water, creating a picturesque and mystifying
view. Hike one of their nature trails, or just enjoy the
views from the boardwalk. From the boardwalk, we
got the chance to see alligators, nutria and a variety
of birds. There is also a small information center with
free interactive activities for kids. Be sure to bring your
binoculars for some exceptional sightings.
If you’re looking for stunning scenery, take a kayaking
trip on the nature river in the fall. During this season,
the weather starts to switch between cold and warm. As
you kayak among the cypress trees, seeing the fog roll
across the water is truly majestic.
CAJUN FOOD SCENE
Port Arthur is known as the Cajun Capital of Texas,
rich in history and culture, and the food is authentic.
Exploring Cajun food here feels like you’ve wandered
into New Orleans! One of the best ways to try it all is
with a self-guided tour with a pass to the Cajun Food
Trail. Southeast Texas serves up fun twists on classic
Cajun dishes, like Cajun mac’n’cheese, Boudin grilled
cheese, and of course, crawfish boil. Some of our
top restaurant picks include Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp,
Floyd’s Seafood, and Crazy Cajun. Next time you visit
Beaumont, make sure to check out these tasty Cajun
spots and enjoy a delicious culinary journey!

DUTCH WINDMILL MUSEUM
Just outside of Beaumont is Nederland, Texas.
What’s really cool about this place is it is home to the
immigrants who actually brought a whole windmill from
the Netherlands. You can view the beatiful architecture
of the windmill and buildings that you don’t normally
see in Texas. Go inside to learn about their culture and
history. You can even try on clogs!
FIRE MUSEUM OF TEXAS
The Fire Museum is right across from the world’s largest
working fire hydrant which was donated by Disney.
This historical display of relics including old fire trucks.
Can you picture a horse-drawn fire vehicle? Not only
do you learn the history of firefighting, you can put on
a firefighter uniform, fun for both kids and adults. The
children’s area teaches kids fire safety, making it fun and
educational.
SPINDLETOP GLADYS-CITY
BOOMTOWN
Some great Texas history comes from Spindletop - it’s
where the oil boom in Texas began. They have recreated Glady-City from the early 1900s. You can get
the feeling of stepping back in time as you browse the
old buildings such as an old saloon, stables and artifacts
from the period.
