USIP President and CEO Lise Grandewelcomed the group with an overview of USIP’s more than 300 peacebuilding initiativesworldwide, covering 19 conflict zones in 90 countries. “When I worked for the UnitedNations, I served on the front lines in 12 wars. I don’t know anyone who has ever beenin a war that did not profoundly believe that peace was a better option,” she remarked.Numerous State Department and USIP officials joined the delegates over lunch to discussthe many facets of statecraft, global policymaking and careers in Foreign Service.
