THE CITY OF NEW YORK
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
NEW YORK, NY 10007
October 3, 2022
Dear Friends:
It gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to the United Hospital Fund (UHF)’s annual
gala.
New York is a city of magic—one where the impossible becomes probable and every individual
has the chance to chase their dreams. This is doable only because of the many organizations that
affirm our city’s foundations of access, equality, and prosperity. For more than a century, UHF
has served as one of these great community institutions, enabling New Yorkers to achieve their
full potential by strengthening our minds and bodies. Driven by its mission to build a more
effective and equitable health care system, this group has developed key research and policy
proposals, disseminated invaluable information, and fostered meaningful partnerships.
UHF thinks outside of the box, understanding that health care is about more than what happens
in our bodies; it impacts every aspect of our lives. Through programs such as its Health
Insurance Project and its Partnership for Early Childhood Development (PECD), it addresses
larger structural issues by providing affordable insurance coverage, connecting clients to
temporary housing, studying the effects of immigration, and so much more. When the COVID19 pandemic spread throughout our city and nation, UHF worked tirelessly to provide up-to-date
research both on the ongoing health crisis and its unprecedented outcomes. Today, as its
members gather in-person for the first time since 2019, I am proud to commend UHF, the
organization’s former president, and tonight’s honorees for their commitment to building a
better, brighter tomorrow.
On behalf of 8.5 million New Yorkers, please accept my best wishes for a memorable and safe
event.
Sincerely,
Eric Adams
Mayor
