Arise, O Lord, in anger!
Stand up against the fury of my
enemies!
Wake up, my God, and bring
justice!
Gather the nations before you.
Rule over them from on high.
The Lord judges the nations.
Declare me righteous, O Lord,
for I am innocent, O Most High!
End the evil of those who are
wicked,
and defend the righteous.
For you look deep within the mind
and heart,
O righteous God.
God is my shield,
saving those whose hearts are
true and right.
God is an honest judge.
He is angry with the wicked
every day.
If a person does not repent,
God* will sharpen his sword;
he will bend and string his bow.
He will prepare his deadly weapons
and shoot his flaming arrows.
The wicked conceive evil;
they are pregnant with trouble
and give birth to lies.

They dig a deep pit to trap
others,
then fall into it themselves.
The trouble they make for others
backfires on them.
The violence they plan falls on
their own heads.
I will thank the Lord because he
is just;
I will sing praise to the name
of the Lord Most High.

My child,* listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on
understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would
for silver;
seek them like hidden
treasures.
Then you will understand what
it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge
of God.
2:1 Hebrew My son.
Lord, you and Abraham talked—a lot. He turned to you
for advice and asked what you wanted him to do. Call our
leaders toward that sort of friendship with you so your will
can be lived out here in this country as in heaven. Amen.
GENESIS 18:16–19:38
Then the men got up from their meal
and looked out toward Sodom. As they
left, Abraham went with them to send
them on their way.
17 “Should I hide my plan from
Abraham?” the Lord asked. 18 “For
Abra
ham will certainly become a
great and mighty nation, and all the
nations of the earth will be blessed
through him. 19 I have singled him

Lord by doing what is right and just.
Then I will do for Abraham all that I
have promised.”
20 So the Lord told Abraham, “I have
heard a great outcry from Sodom and
Gomorrah, because their sin is so flagrant. 21 I am going down to see if their
actions are as wicked as I have heard.
If not, I want to know.”
22 The other men turned and headed
toward Sodom, but the Lord remained
with Abraham. 23 Abraham approached
him and said, “Will you sweep away
