for a loaf of bread, do you give them a
stone instead? 10Or if they ask for a fish,
do you give them a snake? Of course
not! 11So if you sinful people know how
to give good gifts to your children, how
much more will your heavenly Father
give good gifts to those who ask him.
12“Do to others whatever you would
like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and
the prophets.
13“You can enter God’s Kingdom only
through the narrow gate. The highway
to hell* is broad, and its gate is wide
for the many who choose that way. 14But
the gateway to life is very narrow and
the road is difficult, and only a few ever
find it.”

PSALM 8:1-9
For the choir director: A psalm of David, to
be accompanied by a stringed instrument.*
O Lord, our Lord, your majestic
name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the
heavens.
2 You have taught children and infants
to tell of your strength,*
silencing your enemies
and all who oppose you.
1
When I look at the night sky and
see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you
set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you
should think about them,
human beings that you should
care for them?*
5 Yet you made them only a little lower
than God*
and crowned them* with glory
and honor.
6 You gave them charge of everything
you made,

putting all things under their
authority—
7 the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
8 the birds in the sky, the fish
in the sea,
and everything that swims the
ocean currents.

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic
name fills the earth!

PROVERBS 2:6-15
For the Lord grants wisdom! From his
mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield
to those who walk with integrity. He
guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.
¨ Then you will understand what is
right, just, and fair, and you will find the
right way to go. For wisdom will enter
your heart, and knowledge will fill you
with joy. Wise choices will watch over
you. Understanding will keep you safe.
¨ Wisdom will save you from evil people, from those whose words are
twisted. These men turn from the right
way to walk down dark paths. They take
pleasure in doing wrong, and they enjoy the twisted ways of evil. Their actions are crooked, and their ways are
wrong.
