30Afterward
Lot left Zoar because he
was afraid of the people there, and he
went to live in a cave in the mountains
with his two daughters. 31One day the
older daughter said to her sister, “There
are no men left anywhere in this entire
area, so we can’t get married like everyone else. And our father will soon be too
old to have children. 32Come, let’s get him
drunk with wine, and then we will have
sex with him. That way we will preserve
our family line through our father.”
33 So that night they got him drunk
with wine, and the older daughter went
in and had intercourse with her father.
He was unaware of her lying down or
getting up again.
34The next morning the older daughter said to her younger sister, “I had sex
with our father last night. Let’s get him
drunk with wine again tonight, and you
go in and have sex with him. That way
we will preserve our family line through
our father.” 35 So that night they got him
drunk with wine again, and the younger
daughter went in and had intercourse
with him. As before, he was unaware of
her lying down or getting up again.
36As a result, both of Lot’s daughters
became pregnant by their own father.
37 When the older daughter gave birth
to a son, she named him Moab.* He became the ancestor of the nation now
known as the Moabites. 38When the
younger daughter gave birth to a son,
she named him Ben-ammi.* He became
the ancestor of the nation now known
as the Ammonites.
19:10 Hebrew men; also in 19:12, 16. 19:37 Moab
sounds like a Hebrew term that means “from father.”
19:38 Ben-ammi means “son of my kinsman.”

“That is why I tell you not to worry about
everyday life—whether you have enough
food and drink, or enough clothes to
wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your
body more than clothing? 26Look at the
birds. They don’t plant or harvest or
store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more
valuable to him than they are? 27Can all

your worries add a single moment to
your life?
28“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and
how they grow. They don’t work or make
their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his
glory was not dressed as beautifully as
they are. 30And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today
and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he
will certainly care for you. Why do you
have so little faith?
31“So don’t worry about these things,
saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we
drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These
things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the
Kingdom of God* above all else, and live
righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
34“So don’t worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will bring its own worries.
Today’s trouble is enough for today.
7:1“Do not judge others, and you will not
be judged. 2For you will be treated as
you treat others.* The standard you use
in judging is the standard by which you
will be judged.*
3“And why worry about a speck in
your friend’s eye* when you have a log
in your own? 4How can you think of saying to your friend,* ‘Let me help you get
rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you
can’t see past the log in your own eye?
5Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in
your own eye; then you will see well
enough to deal with the speck in your
friend’s eye.
6“Don’t waste what is holy on people
who are unholy.* Don’t throw your
pearls to pigs! They will trample the
pearls, then turn and attack you.
7“Keep on asking, and you will receive
what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and
you will find. Keep on knocking, and the
door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who
seeks, finds. And to everyone who
knocks, the door will be opened.
9“You parents—if your children ask
