easy prey for outside enemies or for inside rot. Isaiah’s message to Judah is still a vital
message for us: Repent, turn from sin, and acknowledge the Lord.
Are you plunging ahead in life, busily following your own agenda? You have bills to
pay, a career to manage, hobbies to pursue, a house to fix up, kids to cart around, meetings to attend, classes to take—you’ve got things to do! But you may be going too fast
to read the warning signs. You may be so busy you aren’t even thinking about warning
signs. You may have become so deaf to God’s Word that you don’t even remember what
warning signs look like.
Slow down and rethink your priorities before you plunge headlong into disaster—
eternal disaster. Read God’s words, recorded in the Bible. Listen to those who are teaching and explaining it. Heed the real signs of the times before it is too late.
Key verses in Isaiah
6:3 “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord
of Heaven’s Armies! The whole
earth is filled with his glory!”
7:14 “The virgin will conceive
a child! She will give birth to a
son and will call him Immanuel
(which means ‘God is with us’).”
9:6 For a child is born to us, a son
is given to us. The government will
rest on his shoulders. And he will
be called: Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
11:10 In that day the heir
to David’s throne will be a
banner of salvation to all
the world.
43:1 “I have called you by
name; you are mine.”
52 :7 How beautiful on the
mountains are the feet of
the messenger who brings
good news, the good news
of peace and salvation, the
news that the God of Israel
reigns!

These are the visions that Isaiah son of
Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
He saw these visions during the years when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings
of Judah.*
A Message for Rebellious Judah
2 Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth!
This is what the Lord says:
“The children I raised and cared for
have rebelled against me.
3 Even an ox knows its owner,
and a donkey recognizes its master’s care—
but Israel doesn’t know its master.
My people don’t recognize my care
for them.”
4 Oh, what a sinful nation they are—
loaded down with a burden of guilt.
They are evil people,
corrupt children who have rejected
the Lord.
They have despised the Holy One of Israel
and turned their backs on him.
5
Why do you continue to invite punishment?
Must you rebel forever?
Your head is injured,

53:5 But he was pierced for our
rebellion, crushed for our sins. He
was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be
healed.
55:9 For just as the heavens are
higher than the earth, so my ways
are higher than your ways and my
thoughts higher than your thoughts.
65:17 “Look! I am creating new
heavens and a new earth, and no
one will even think about the old
ones anymore.”
and your heart is sick.
You are battered from head to foot—
covered with bruises, welts, and infected
wounds—
without any soothing ointments or
bandages.
Your country lies in ruins,
and your towns are burned.
Foreigners plunder your fields before
your eyes
and destroy everything they see.
Beautiful Jerusalem* stands abandoned
like a watchman’s shelter in a vineyard,
like a lean-to in a cucumber field after the
harvest,
like a helpless city under siege.
If the Lord of Heaven’s Armies
had not spared a few of us,*
we would have been wiped out like Sodom,
destroyed like Gomorrah.
Listen to the Lord, you leaders of “Sodom.”
Listen to the law of our God,
people of “Gomorrah.”
1:1 These kings reigned from 792 to 686 b.c. 1:8 Hebrew
The daughter of Zion. 1:9 Greek version reads a few of our
children. Compare Rom 9:29.
