Rise up! Help us!
Ransom us because of your unfailing love.

For the choir director: A love song to be
sung to the tune “Lilies.” A psalm* of the
descendants of Korah.
1
Beautiful words stir my heart.
I will recite a lovely poem about the king,
for my tongue is like the pen of a
skillful poet.
2
You are the most handsome of all.
Gracious words stream from your lips.
God himself has blessed you forever.
Put on your sword, O mighty warrior!
You are so glorious, so majestic!
In your majesty, ride out to victory,
defending truth, humility, and justice.
Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds!
Your arrows are sharp, piercing your
enemies’ hearts.
The nations fall beneath your feet.

Your throne, O God,* endures forever and ever.
You rule with a scepter of justice.
You love justice and hate evil.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more
than on anyone else.
Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume your robes.
In ivory palaces the music of strings
entertains you.
Kings’ daughters are among your noble
women.
At your right side stands the queen,
wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir!
Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart
what I say.
Forget your people and your family
far away.
For your royal husband delights in your
beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.
The princess of Tyre* will shower you
with gifts.
The wealthy will beg your favor.
The bride, a princess, looks glorious
in her golden gown.
In her beautiful robes, she is led to the king,
accompanied by her bridesmaids.
What a joyful and enthusiastic procession
as they enter the king’s palace!
Your sons will become kings like their father.
You will make them rulers over many lands.
I will bring honor to your name in every
generation.
Therefore, the nations will praise you
forever and ever.

God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
• Creativity
PS A LM 45:1
Why does an artist paint, a musician play,
or an author write? Because they are
overflowing with ideas and must express
them. Creativity is the overflow of a full
heart and mind. But sometimes we’re
empty—or full of the wrong material. How
can we be full of the beauty that will spill
out in wonderful images, sounds, words,
and movement? By taking the time to fill
up on what is beautiful and what is true.
We can’t spend our energy on worthless
pursuits and stay creative, because
creativity requires energy too. And if we
want our creativity to express the things
of God, then we must always be “filling
up” on God’s Spirit and wisdom. Take
time to know God. Take time to soak up
all that is beautiful. Take time to think. As
your inner wells fill up, you can be sure
that the creativity will soon be flowing out
of your life in productive ways.
• Fear
PS A LM 46:1-2
The abundance of natural disasters in
recent years reminds us of the possibilities
of even greater disasters, such as the
whole world being blown up by nuclear
war. We all fear the disasters that cripple
nations and societies, and leave people
wounded and destitute. The fear of atomic
disaster is on the minds of many people
today. What if . . . ?
Consider the worst disaster that could
happen. Then ask yourself, “Is God with
me—or not?” Have you asked him to be
your refuge and strength? The Christian
has God’s assurance that, even if the worst
happens, we are his forever. If the world
blows apart, we will be taken immediately
to be with God. But for people who remain
alienated from God, such a disaster means
the end of their chances to be reconciled
and live forever with God. This is the clear
teaching of the Bible.
