Worship continued
• MAT T H E W 2 :1 1 | They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and
they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave
him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 8 :1 -2 , 4 | Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God
in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. They are being tested by
many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which
has overflowed in rich generosity. . . . They begged us again and again for the privilege of
sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem.
Worship should be accompanied by generous giving.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 1 :2 3-2 6 | For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On
the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God
for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this
in remembrance of me.” . . . For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are
announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
The Lord’s supper is both an act of worship to God and an act of fellowship among
believers.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 4 :2 6 | When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another
will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will
interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

Everyone has something valuable to contribute to public worship.
Should our worship be somber and serious or joyous and celebratory?

• L E V I T I C U S 1 0 :1 | In this way, they disobeyed the Lord by burning before him the wrong
kind of fire, different than he had commanded. (See note on page 99.)
Worship is a response to the holiness of God and therefore should be respectful and
reverent.
• PSA L M 9 5 :1 -6 | Come, let us sing to the Lord! . . . Let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
(See note on page 530.)
• MAT T H E W 2 :1 1 | They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and
they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave
him gifts. (See note on page 861.)
True worship involves both reverent adoration and joyful celebration.
How can I make worship a part of my daily life?
• PSA L M 1 0 4 :3 3 | I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last
breath!
• H E B R E W S 1 3 :1 5 | Let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God,
proclaiming our allegiance to his name.
As you begin your day, and at night as you remember his goodness during the day. Praise
him consistently with a grateful heart until the day you die!
• J O H N 4 :2 3 | “But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship
him that way.”
Worship is not confined to formal places and times. The only thing that is required is
that you worship God in spirit (through authentic faith inspired by the Holy Spirit) and
in truth (according to God’s true person and nature). You can do that anytime and
anywhere.
• E PH E S I A NS 5 :1 8 -1 9 | Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.
Worship, in addition to being an act of the people of God, is also a part of ordinary life.
One way to bring worship into your daily life is through music, whether you sing to yourself
or listen to it.
