Worship continued
• 1 K I NG S 8 :1 0 -1 1 | When the priests came out of the Holy Place, a thick cloud filled the
Temple of the Lord. The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud,
for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of the Lord.
God meets his people in a unique and powerful way when they worship him together.
• DE U T E R O NO MY 3 1 :1 1 | “You must read this Book of Instruction to all the people of Israel
when they assemble before the Lord your God at the place he chooses.”
• MI CA H 4 :2 | “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob’s God.
There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.”
• R O MA NS 1 5 :5 -6 | May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live
in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of
you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
Something special and awe-inspiring happens when God’s people get together to sing,
praise, hear his Word, and worship him. There is a sense of community and fellowship that
can only happen when believers worship together.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 4 :2 6 | Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet
together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has
given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything
that is done must strengthen all of you. (See note on page 1041.)

• A C T S 2 :4 6 | They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s
Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity.

Worshiping together strengthens the faith of all believers present. This strengthened faith leads
to greater love for God and others, motivating believers to acts of love for God and others.
• PSA L M 1 0 0 :1 -4 | Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us,
and we are his. . . . Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give
thanks to him and praise his name.
• PSA L M 4 7 :7 | For God is the King over all the earth. Praise him with a psalm.
• PSA L M 9 5 :1 | Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Worship is a fitting response to God’s holiness, power, love, and grace.
• MA R K 1 0 :2 1 -2 2 | Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one
thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money
to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s
face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. (See note on page 907.)
We all worship something. Worship of God is evidence that he is your first priority.
• PSA L M 9 6 :4 | Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above
all gods.
• MAT T H E W 1 4 :3 3 | Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!”
they exclaimed.
We worship God alone because he alone is worthy of our utmost devotion.
• 1 C H R O NI C L E S 1 3 :3 | [David said,] “It is time to bring back the Ark of our God, for we
neglected it during the reign of Saul.” (See note on page 368.)
Do you worship out of a genuine love for God or out of a vague sense of guilt? God wants
a heartfelt response from us—like David’s—not a distant acknowledgment.
How should I worship God?
• E X O DU S 3 :5 | “Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you
are standing on holy ground.”
When you approach God’s presence in worship, recognize that wherever you are, you are
standing on holy ground. In other words, you come to God with an attitude of respect and
humility for almighty God no matter where you are.
