• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 :2 0 -2 1 | God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God
in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he
has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 0 :4 -5 | We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock
down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy
every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.
Wisdom transforms head knowledge into common-sense action. Wisdom from God helps
you develop a biblical outlook that penetrates the deceptive and distorted thoughts of the
world.
• PR O VE R B S 9 :1 0 | Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy
One results in good judgment.
• PSA L M 1 1 1 :1 0 | Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his
commandments will grow in wisdom.
Wisdom is not simply knowing facts and figures; it is understanding the filter through
which those facts and figures should be used. Wisdom recognizes that an all-powerful,
all-knowing God has designed a moral universe with consequences for good or sinful
choices. Wisdom begins with understanding your accountability to and your full dependence on your Creator. It’s not what you know but Who you know.
• PR O VE R B S 3 :2 1 -2 6 | My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang
on to them, for they will refresh your soul. . . . They keep you safe on your way, and your
feet will not stumble. You can go to bed without fear . . . for the Lord is your security. He
will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.
Wisdom will help preserve you from trouble and disaster. Wise people know the difference
between right and wrong and choose to do what’s right, which often helps them avoid
trouble. More than that, wisdom is choosing to apply God’s truth and principles to your
daily relationships and situations.
• E C C L E S I A S T E S 1 0 :1 0 | Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade.
That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.
Wisdom gives you an edge that will help you succeed.
• PR O VE R B S 9 :1 1 -1 2 | Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. If you
become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to
suffer.
• PR O VE R B S 3 :5 -6 | Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own
understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
• PR O VE R B S 2 4 :5 | The wise are mightier than the strong.
As a general rule, wisdom will allow you to lead a longer, healthier, happier life because
you will have the discernment and common sense to stay away from temptations and
harmful habits that can hurt you, both in the short and long term.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 :1 9 | “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence
of the intelligent.”
Spiritual wisdom allows you to know the difference between what the Bible says is wise
and what the world claims to be wise.
• PR O VE R B S 5 :1 -2 | Pay attention to my wisdom. . . . Then you will show discernment, and
your lips will express what you’ve learned.
Wisdom gives you discretion—knowing what to say and when to say it, and knowing how
to deal with delicate situations in ways that are most helpful to those involved.
• MAT T H E W 7 :2 4 -2 7 | “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person
who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters
rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.
