Will of God continued
Does God really have a plan for my life?
• PSA L M 1 3 9 :3 | You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything
I do.
The Bible talks about God having both a general plan and a specific plan for your life. He
wants you to follow a certain path toward his desired purpose for you, but he also cares
about the details along the way. He cares about the details of your life because they are a
barometer of the condition of your heart.
• PH I L I P P I A NS 1 :6 | And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will
continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
• PSA L M 1 3 8 :8 | The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord,
endures forever.
God has a plan for your life. It is not an unthinking, automated script that you must follow.
It is a journey with various important destinations and appointments but also with a great
deal of freedom as to the pace and scope of the travel. God’s plan for you will always have
a sense of mystery, but you can be certain that he will guide you as long as you rely on his
leading.
• E ST H E R 4 :1 4 | “Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”
(See note on page 446.)
W
God’s plans for you are always for good. God has wonderful things he would like to
accomplish through you. Unknown plans can be frightening, but when they are designed
by God, you can expect something marvelous.

• PSA L M 3 2 :8 | The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will
advise you and watch over you.”
God definitely wants to help you follow the path that will be most pleasing to him, and in
the long run, it will be the most fulfilling to you, too.
• J E R E MI A H 2 9 :1 1 | “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans
for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Sometimes you might be tempted to question God’s will for your life, thinking he has made
a mistake. Ultimately, what looks like a mistake to you now will be God’s means to bring
about something fulfilling and wonderful.
What are some things I should do to discover God’s will for my life?
• R O MA NS 1 2 :1 -2 | And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies
to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind
he will find acceptable. . . . Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God
transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to
know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Knowing God’s will begins with knowing God. He holds nothing good back from those
who hold nothing back from him. As he transforms you into a new person, you will come
to understand his ways and enjoy the habit of living out his purpose for your life.
• G E NE S I S 1 2 :1 , 4 | The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your
relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. . . . So Abram
departed as the Lord had instructed.
• I SA I A H 2 :3 | “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob’s God.
There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.”
• PH I L I P P I A NS 3 :1 5 -1 6 | Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you
disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must hold on to the
progress we have already made. (See note on page 1074.)
To know God’s will you must obey God’s Word and let God teach you from his word.
• PR O V E R B S 2 :3 -5 | Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you
would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means
to fear the Lord.
