Does unity mean everyone has to agree?
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 2 :1 4 | The body has many different parts, not just one part. (See note on
page 1039.)
Unity is not synonymous with uniformity. God has created us differently, which means
there will be differences of opinion. But our common goal is the same—to serve God.
Why is unity so crucial for the church?
• R O MA NS 1 5 :5 -6 | May God . . . help you live in complete harmony with each other. . . .
Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God.
Unity creates a more beautiful worship experience.
If the church is to be unified, why are there so many different denominations?
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 :1 0 | I appeal to you . . . to live in harmony with each other. Let there be
no divisions in the church. Rather, be . . . united in thought and purpose.
Although Scripture discourages divisions in the church, diversity can be positive if all are
striving for a united purpose of serving and glorifying God.
A clear vision and mutual goals are keys to successful teamwork.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 :1 0 | I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of
our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the
church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.
Harmony and unity are vital in order to cooperate and work efficiently together.
• PH I L I PP I A NS 2 :1 -4 | Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from
his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?
Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another,
and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others.
Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own
interests, but take an interest in others, too.
Genuine appreciation for the gifts and abilities of each team member and humility to realize you’re just one piece of the puzzle promote good teamwork.
• NE H E MI A H 4 :6 | At last the wall was completed to half its height around the entire city, for
the people had worked with enthusiasm.
• L U K E 5 :1 8 -2 0 | Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried
to take him inside to Jesus, but they couldn’t reach him because of the crowd. So they went
up to the roof and took off some tiles. Then they lowered the sick man on his mat down into
the crowd, right in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man,
your sins are forgiven.”
The determination and hard work of a team can accomplish incredible things, especially
when they have a common goal and encourage each other through the process.
• R O MA NS 1 2 :4 -5 | Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special
function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong
to each other.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 2 :2 7 | All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a
part of it.
Teamwork involves cooperation. Teamwork means using your gifts to fulfill your role and
encouraging others to use their gifts to fulfill their role.

• A MO S 3 :3 | Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?
• NE H E MI A H 2 :1 7 -1 8 | But now I said to them, “You know very well what trouble we are in.
Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire. Let us rebuild the wall of
Jerusalem and end this disgrace!” Then I told them about how the gracious hand of God
had been on me, and about my conversation with the king. They replied at once, “Yes, let’s
rebuild the wall!” So they began the good work.
