Truth continued
God’s forgiveness is absolute. When he forgives you, it is forever. He never takes it back.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 5 :4 -6 , 20 | He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the
third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve.
After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time. . . . But in fact,
Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who
have died.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is an absolute truth of the Christian faith. Because he was
raised from the dead, he has conquered death; therefore, his promise of eternal life to all
who have faith in him is certain.
• E PH E S I A NS 1 :1 3 -1 4 | And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by
giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that
he will give us the inheritance he promised.
The presence of the Holy Spirit is an absolute guarantee to those who believe in Jesus
Christ as their Lord and God.
• 1 J O H N 2 :2 4 -2 5 | So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the
beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. And
in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.
• J O H N 3 :1 6 | “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that
everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

• J O H N 1 1 :2 5 -2 6 | Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes
in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never
ever die.”

How can I know the Bible is true?
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :1 6 0 | The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will
stand forever.
God’s Word is an extension of God’s truthful character.
• J O H N 1 6 :1 3 | “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”
The Holy Spirit enlightens our minds and hearts to the truth.
• J O H N 1 8 :3 7 | Jesus responded, “. . . I was born and came into the world to testify to the
truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” (See note on page 974.)
The human quest for truth finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
• 1 J O H N 1 :1 | We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands.
We can trust the New Testament’s claim of Christ’s resurrection because the story is told
by eyewitnesses.
Does God really expect us to tell the truth all the time?
• E X O DU S 2 0 :1 6 | “You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.”
God’s law clearly forbids intentional lying.
• E PH E S I A NS 4 :1 5 | Instead, we will speak the truth in love. (See note on page 1068.)

Why do we lie?
• A C T S 2 0 :3 0 | “Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in
order to draw a following.”
To become popular. Lying presents a false image to others—an image you hope makes
you more desirable. The truth is that this false image actually displays the undesirable
qualities of dishonesty and deceit.
• A C T S 5 :2 | [Ananias] brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full
amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest.
