that determine our future. By studying these truths and living by them, we discover the
way life really works. God’s truth sets us free from a meaningless and chaotic life to a
certain and eternal future where life will always make sense and will always be fair, just,
and full of joy.
What is absolute truth?
• J O H N 3 :3 3 | “Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true.”
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :1 6 0 | The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will
stand forever.
• I SA I A H 4 0 :8 | “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands
forever.”
• R O MA NS 3 :4 | Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him,
“You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.”
Absolute truth has been defined as “that which is objective, universal, and constant, and
that which is true for all people, for all times, and for all places.” Absolute truth originates
from God, who didn’t just create truth, but is truth.
• 2 T I MOT H Y 3 :1 6 | All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true
and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and
teaches us to do what is right.

There must be some standards upon which human life is based, standards that, if followed, create peace and harmony and order in relationships. God has determined and set
these standards in motion, and if we follow them we have greater joy now and will fulfill our
ultimate purpose. We can argue they don’t exist or they aren’t what we’re looking for, but
that doesn’t change the fact that they are true and good and right.
What makes a truth absolutely certain?
• J O B 3 4 :1 2 | “Truly, God will not do wrong. The Almighty will not twist justice.”
• PSA L M 1 8 :3 0 | God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true.
• PSA L M 3 3 :4 | For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does.
Absolute truth must originate from God, who didn’t just create truth but is truth.
Why do we need absolutes? Can’t we just do our own thing?
• PR O V E R B S 2 1 :2 | People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart.
• J E R E MI A H 9 :3 | “My people . . . refuse to stand up for the truth. They only go from bad to
worse. They do not know me,” says the Lord.
• PR O V E R B S 2 :6 , 9 -1 0 | For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and
understanding . . . Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find
the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.
• J A ME S 4 :1 1 | But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you.
• PSA L M 5 1 :5 | For I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.
From the beginning of time, you can see examples of individuals doing what was right
in their own eyes, resulting in catastrophic consequences to themselves and others.
Scripture teaches that you are born with the desire to sin; thus, doing your own thing will
always lead you away from God, the source of all truth. If you buy something that needs
