Serving continued
Jesus sets the example of leadership with the idea of “downward mobility.” By performing
the task of a slave, Jesus models how far we are to go in serving one another.
• MAT T H E W 2 0 :3 2 | When Jesus heard them, he stopped and called, “What do you want me
to do for you?”
Servant-leaders listen and respond to the needs of those around them.
• MA R K 1 0 :4 3 -4 4 | “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader
among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the
slave of everyone else.”
• L U K E 2 2 :2 4 -2 6 | Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the
greatest among them. Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over
their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among you it will be different.
Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should
be like a servant.”
You must learn to follow before you can learn to lead.
PROMISE FROM GOD
• MAT T H E W 1 6 :2 5 | “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your
life for my sake, you will save it.”

God created us as sexual beings. It was not only his means by which we would
reproduce and continue the lifeline of human beings but also his gift to married couples
to allow them to enjoy each other in the most intimate of ways. Through sex we can learn
much about communication and commitment. It is through the intimacy of sex that we
should learn how to be vulnerable, which is the key to open lines of communication. It
is through the intimacy of sex that we learn how to be faithful to one another, and thus
are able to trust each other. As we learn about faithfulness and commitment with our
spouses, we learn much about faithfulness and commitment to God as the only God.
Sexuality, therefore, is not evil but good and sacred. It is the misuse and abuse of sexuality that is wrong—when we take something designed to teach us about God and use it to
satisfy our own sinful desires. The holiness of sexuality is seen in the direct comparison
God makes between sexuality and our relationship with him. It is seen also in his direct
commands for a man and woman to join together in love for one another and produce
the next generation for the Lord.
What does God think about sex?
• G E NE S I S 1 :2 7 -2 8 | So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God
he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be
fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it.”
• G E NE S I S 2 :2 4 | This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his
wife, and the two are united into one.
God created sex. He made men and women as sexual beings—to reproduce and replenish
the next generation with the ability to express love to and delight in one another. The sexual relationship is a key part of husbands and wives becoming one person. God intended
sex to be a good thing within the context of a marriage relationship.
• PR O V E R B S 5 :1 8 -1 9 | Rejoice in the wife of your youth. . . . Let her breasts satisfy you
always. May you always be captivated by her love.
Is sex in marriage only for reproduction, or did God plan for husbands and
wives to enjoy it and to delight in one another through sex?
• PR O V E R B S 5 :1 8 -1 9 | Rejoice in the wife of your youth. . . . Let her breasts satisfy you
always. May you always be captivated by her love.
