Salvation continued
• J O H N 3 :6 | “Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to
spiritual life.” (See note on page 955.)
The power of Christ means nothing less than a new birth.
• R O MA NS 5 :1 | Since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God.
Salvation brings peace with God.
• E PH E S I A NS 2 :1 0 | He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he
planned for us long ago.
God created you for a purpose. Salvation enables you to fulfill that purpose by the power
of God at work within you.
What does it mean to say, “Jesus is the Lamb of God”?
• L E V I T I C U S 1 7 :1 1 | “It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification
possible.” (See note on page 108.)
• J O H N 1 :2 9 | “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
Just as a lamb’s blood brought about forgiveness in the Old Testament, so the blood of
Jesus, through his death on the cross, takes away the sins of the world.
• H E B R E W S 9 :1 2 | With his own blood . . . he . . . secured our redemption forever. (See note
on page 1115.)
The sacrifice of Christ’s shed blood replaced once and for all the blood of lambs and bulls.
S
• 1 P E T E R 1 :1 8 -1 9 | God paid a ransom to save you. . . . It was not paid with mere gold or
silver. . . . It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

The death of Christ, confirmed by his shed blood, was the precious price paid for our
salvation.
How can I know there is a God?
• I SA I A H 4 1 :2 0 -2 3 | “I am doing this so all who see this miracle will understand what it
means—that it is the Lord who has done this, the Holy One of Israel who created it. Present
the case for your idols,” says the Lord. “Let them show what they can do,” says the King of
Israel. “Let them try to tell us what happened long ago so that we may consider the evidence.
Or let them tell us what the future holds, so we can know what’s going to happen. Yes, tell us
what will occur in the days ahead. Then we will know you are gods. In fact, do anything—
good or bad! Do something that will amaze and frighten us.”
• I SA I A H 4 6 :8 -1 0 | “Do not forget this! Keep it in mind! Remember this, you guilty ones.
Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God. . . . Only I
can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do
whatever I wish.”
Fulfillment of prophecy. The track record of the prophets, who spoke long before the
prophesied event, confirms that what they spoke was truth—God’s truth.
• E C C L E S I A S T E S 3 :1 1 | God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted
eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work
from beginning to end.
• R O MA NS 2 :1 4 -1 5 | Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know
his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate
that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either
accuse them or tell them they are doing right.
• R O MA NS 1 :1 9 -2 0 | They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to
them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through
everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and
divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
Your inner conscience. In your heart you know there is someone out there much bigger
than yourself. This is your conscience, which God has built into every human being. If you
listen to your conscience, you will begin a search that will lead to God.
