(2) acknowledging that your sin cuts you off from God, (3) asking Jesus to forgive your sins;
(4) and believing that Jesus is Lord over everything and is the Son of God. The gift is yours.
• R O MA NS 1 1 :6 | And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works.
For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.
You cannot earn your way into heaven by being good and doing kind deeds. Salvation
comes only through faith in Jesus.
Is salvation available to anyone?
• L U K E 2 :1 1 | “The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem!”
Jesus was born in a humble stable among very ordinary people to powerfully demonstrate
that salvation is available to anyone who sincerely seeks him.
• R E VE L AT I O N 2 0 :1 2 | And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as
recorded in the books. (See note on page 1167.)
Salvation is available to all, but a time will come when it will be too late to receive it.
How can I be sure of my salvation?
• R O MA NS 1 0 :9 | If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God
raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Just as a child cannot be “un-born,” God’s children—those who have believed in Jesus
Christ—cannot be “un-born-again.”
• R O MA NS 8 :1 4 | For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
The Holy Spirit takes up residence in our hearts and assures us that we are God’s
children.
• MAT T H E W 1 4 :3 0 -3 1 | “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and
grabbed him. (See note on page 876.)
We cannot save ourselves from sin, guilt, judgment, and spiritual death. Only Jesus Christ
can save us.
Why is salvation necessary?
• G E NE SI S 6 :1 1 -1 3 | Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt. . . . So God said to
Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures.” (See note on page 9.)
• R O MA NS 6 :2 3 | For the wages of sin is death . . .
Salvation is necessary because sin against a holy God separates you from him, bringing
judgment and spiritual death. An unholy being cannot live in the presence of a holy God.
• A C T S 4 :1 2 | “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under
heaven by which we must be saved.” (See note on page 983.)
Although it may sound exclusive, the Bible’s claim of “one way” to salvation is actually
an expression of the grace and kindness of God in letting all people know how to escape
eternal judgment. God invites anyone and everyone to come to him.
How does salvation affect my daily life?
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 5 :1 7 | This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new
person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
Salvation not only gives you hope for eternity but also hope for today. You have been given
a new life and new power for living.
• R O MA NS 6 :1 1 | So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and
alive to God through Christ Jesus.
Being saved means being freed from slavery to the power of sin so that you can live as
God intended.

children of God.
