Salvation continued
• PSA L M 5 1 :9 -1 0 | Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. (See note
on page 507.)
Being saved means the stain of guilt has been washed away. Guilt doesn’t just appear to
be gone—it is gone! You are given a clean slate!
• J O H N 1 0 :2 8 -2 9 | “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch
them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than
anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.”
• J O H N 5 :2 4 | “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God
who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have
already passed from death into life.”
Being saved means you are assured of living forever in heaven, which will actually be a
new earth where there will no longer be sin, pain, and suffering. What greater hope could
you have?
What does it mean to be reconciled to God?
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 5 :1 9 | For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer
counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of
reconciliation. (See note on page 1051.)

• E PH E S I A NS 2 :1 3 | Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near
to him through the blood of Christ. (See note on page 1067.)

• L E V I T I C U S 8 :1 8 -3 4 | Then Moses presented the ram for the burnt offering. . . . It was a
pleasing aroma, a special gift presented to the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded
him. . . . “Everything we have done today was commanded by the Lord in order to purify
you, making you right with him.” (See note on page 98.)
Reconciliation begins with a recognition that without Christ we are lost and separated from
a holy God.
• R O MA NS 5 :1 | Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have
peace with God.
Reconciliation with God comes through faith that he is who he claims to be in the Bible,
that he brings peace of mind and heart, and that he will ultimately bring peace to the
world.
How can I be saved?
• R O MA NS 1 0 :1 3 | “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
God’s Word promises salvation—an eternal guarantee of a perfect life in heaven—to anyone who calls on Jesus’ name to have their sins forgiven. Call out to him in prayer and tell
him that you want him to save you. He promises he will.
• J O H N 3 :1 6 | “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that
everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
• J O H N 5 :2 4 | “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who
sent me have eternal life.”
Jesus promised that those who believe in him will be saved. All you have to do is accept
what Jesus did for you. God sent Jesus Christ to take your place and receive the punishment that your sins deserve. When you believe that he died to save you from your sins and
rose again to give you eternal life, then you will be saved.
• R O MA NS 1 0 :9 -1 0 | If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that
God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that
you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
• E PH E S I A NS 2 :8 | God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit
for this; it is a gift from God.
It seems too easy. The greatest gift God could ever offer—life in a perfect world—
is absolutely free. You just have to accept it by: (1) agreeing with God that you sin,
