Rest continued
David and those who were with him. For they said, “You must all be very hungry and tired
and thirsty after your long march through the wilderness.”
• 1 K I NG S 1 9 :5 -8 | As he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, “Get up and
eat!” . . . So he ate and drank and lay down again. Then the angel of the Lord came again
and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too
much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank.
Take good care of your body: exercise, rest, and eat nutritious meals. These activities will
help you overcome weariness. Poor nutrition or health habits invite burnout.
• PSA L M 6 8 :3 5 | God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and
strength to his people. Praise be to God!
• I SA I A H 4 0 :2 9 -3 1 | He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths
will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in
the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and
not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
• E PH E S I A NS 6 :1 0 | Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
R
The Lord will give you renewed strength when you grow weary. When you come to him in
praise, he refreshes your heart. When you come to him in prayer, he refreshes your soul.
When you come to him in solitude, he refreshes your body. When you come to him in need,
he refreshes your mind. When you come to him with thankfulness, he refreshes your perspective. This releases the burdens of life and draws strength from him, the source of strength.

you to slow down.
• 2 S A MU E L 1 7 :1 -2 | Now Ahithophel urged Absalom, “Let me choose 12,000 men to start

them to attack you.
What is the difference between rest and laziness?
• H E B R E W S 4 :1 0 | For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors,
just as God did after creating the world.
