• A C T S 2 0 :2 2 | “And now I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. I don’t know what
awaits me.”
Paul faced unimaginable hardship yet never gave up, finishing the work to which God had
called him. If you believe the Holy Spirit has called you to do something, let his power and
encouragement keep you from quitting when the going gets tough.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 4 :8 | We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed.
We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.
Even in the middle of suffering, believers can find strength from Jesus to endure.
• 2 T I MOT H Y 4 :7 | I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained
faithful.
• MAT T H E W 1 0 :2 2 | “But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.”
• G A L AT I A NS 6 :9 | Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will
reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
You can avoid discouragement and the desire to quit by keeping your eyes on the goal of
finishing well and the reward of heaven. Even during times when suffering or difficulties
seem never ending, having an eternal perspective can give you hope by reminding you
that these times are only temporary and won’t last forever.
• E C C L E S I A S T E S 1 0 :4 | If your boss is angry at you, don’t quit! A quiet spirit can overcome
even great mistakes.
Quitting gives you a reputation of being unreliable and less trustworthy. Be faithful and
honest in whatever you do, for when you can be trusted with small things, you have a
better chance of being trusted with larger responsibilities. Even in the face of criticism,
continue to work hard and display a cheerful spirit. Others will notice, and your reputation
will be enhanced.
Is there ever a time when I should quit something?
• PSA L M 7 5 :4 | “I warned the proud, ‘Stop your boasting!’ ”
• PR O VE R B S 2 3 :4 | Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when
to quit.
• J E R E MI A H 2 2 :3 | ‘This is what the Lord says: Be fair-minded and just. Do what is right!
Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Quit your evil deeds!
Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. Stop murdering the innocent!’
• R O MA NS 1 4 :1 3 | So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way
that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.
• E PH E SI A NS 4 :2 8 | If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard
work, and then give generously to others in need.
It is time to quit when you are doing something wrong, when you realize your actions will
create no lasting value, or when you are hurting yourself or others. Even if an action or
behavior is not inherently wrong, if it is not productive, is absorbing much of your time and
attention, or is a stumbling block to others, it’s time to quit.

Endurance is the antidote to quitting. When you continue to obey God’s Word even in difficult times, you demonstrate that your faith is strong. When you refuse to get discouraged
and give up, God rewards you. Trusting God means that you confidently expect him to
guide you through each day until you see him face-to-face when you enter his heavenly
Kingdom.

must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.
