Can I lose God’s call?
• R O MA NS 1 1 :2 9 | For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.
God’s call is like your family name. Even when you feel you’ve dishonored your family, you
do not lose your name. The same principle applies when you are a member of God’s family. As a child of God, he has given you specific gifts and called you to do certain tasks for
him. If you don’t use the gifts God has given you to fulfill the purpose for which he created
you, then you are missing out on the best possible life he planned for you. But as long as
you have life and breath, you can answer God’s call. It’s never too late.
What does God provide so I can fulfill his call?
• H E B R E W S 1 3 :2 0 -2 1 | Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord
Jesus . . . equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the
power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him.
When God calls, he equips. If you commit yourself to answering his call, the power of the
resurrected Lord will enable you to fulfill it.

• 1 T H E S S A L O NI A NS 5 :23-2 4 | May the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may
your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes
again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

Like the boxer who says, “No more!” in the middle of a championship fight and refuses to
come out of his corner, most of us have moments when we feel like quitting. Whether the
foe has been our job, family relationships, or other difficult circumstances, we’ve been
smacked in the nose too many times, and we want to cry, “No more!” The Bible recognizes that life is difficult and, at times, overwhelming. Faith does not prevent hardship,
but it does offer resources, encouragement, and hope to help us persevere when we feel
like quitting.
How can I keep going when I feel like quitting?
• J O S H U A 6 :3 | “You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for
six days.” (See note on page 197.)
When God’s way doesn’t seem to make sense or produce results, we may be tempted to
quit. Obedience takes endurance because it isn’t always easy.
• NE H E MI A H 4 :2 -3 | “What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing?” . . . “That
stone wall would collapse if even a fox walked along the top of it!” (See note on page 430.)
Faced with an overwhelming task and ridicule from adversaries, Nehemiah kept his eyes on
his goal and his call. You can resist quitting when you keep yourself focused on your goals.
• NU MB E R S 1 4 :3 | “Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle?
Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to
return to Egypt?” (See note on page 135.)
Giving up on a task you know God has called you to will cause you to miss out on the
amazing joy and satisfaction that you will experience upon its completion.
