Pain continued
• 1 P E T E R 5 :7 | Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
• PSA L M 3 1 :7 | I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles,
and you care about the anguish of my soul.
It is easier to deal with pain when someone is helping you through it, and there is no one
better to help than God! These verses are not saying that God will keep you from experiencing pain, but that he will keep you from being defeated by it if you go to him for help
and healing. Place your pain on his shoulders so he can help you bear it.
• PSA L M 1 0 :1 7 | Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries
and comfort them.
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :7 6 | Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your
servant.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 :3 -4 | All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our
merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we
can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort
God has given us.
God listens, loves, blesses, and comforts us when we are in pain. While others do this
inconsistently, God is unfailing.
• PSA L M 6 9 :2 9 | I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power.
P
Go first to the One who is all-powerful and can help you most with your hurt and pain. Not
only can God heal your pain on earth, but his power of salvation will free you from all pain
in eternity.

• PSA L M 2 5 :1 8 | Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sins.

crushed.

God’s character of unfailing love and plentiful mercy is like medicine for your pain.
What else will help to heal my pain?
• MA R K 1 4 :3 4 -3 6 | He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death.” . . .
“Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of
suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” (See note on page 913.)
• PSA L M 1 3 0 :1 | From the depths of despair, O Lord, I call for your help.
Acknowledge your pain honestly to God in prayer. This is how you begin the process of
healing.
• 2 S A MU E L 1 8 :3 3 | The king was overcome with emotion. He went up to the room over the
gateway and burst into tears. And as he went, he cried, “O my son Absalom! My son, my

• J O H N 9 :2 -3 | “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it
because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’
sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”
• PSA L M 1 3 9 :2 3 -2 4 | Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious
thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of
everlasting life.
