• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 9 :9 | “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds
will be remembered forever.”
• 1 J O H N 3 :1 7 | If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in
need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
• 1 T I MOT H Y 6 :1 8 | Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good
works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.
Use your money to meet others’ needs.
• L U K E 6 :3 8 | “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down,
shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The
amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
Invest your money in the lives of others.
What is the relationship between wealth and contentment?
• G E NE SI S 3 :4 -5 | “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your
eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good
and evil.”
• 1 T I MOT H Y 6 :6 -7 | Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we
brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us
when we leave it.
Knowing that your real home is with God in eternity should help you be content that your
future is secure. Making wise personal investments in time, character, and people here will
bring you great wealth in heaven.
• E C C L E S I A S T E S 5 :1 9 -2 0 | To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a
gift from God. God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood
over the past. (See note on page 591.)
• PH I L I PP I A NS 4 :1 1 -1 3 | I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. . . . I have
learned the secret of living in every situation. . . . For I can do everything through Christ,
who gives me strength. (See note on page 1076.)
• H E B R E W S 1 3 :5 | Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
“I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
Contentment is neither dependent on wealth nor stifled by poverty. Wealth by itself is
neutral—neither good nor bad. The key is to thank God for what we have and to use our
time and resources to please him.
PROMISES FROM GOD
• MAT T H E W 6 :3 1 -3 3 | “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What
will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but
your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all
else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
• 1 T I MOT H Y 6 :1 7 | Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust
in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all
we need for our enjoyment.

Satan’s goal is to get you to believe the illusion that knowing more or having more will
make you content. Actually, that lie just shows you’ll never be satisfied because he
deceives you into thinking that a little more is always better. A person who is never satisfied is a person who fails to fully trust God.
