• G E NE SI S 1 6 :5 | Then Sarai said to Abram, “This is all your fault! I put my servant into
your arms, but now that she’s pregnant she treats me with contempt.”
• PR O VE R B S 1 9 :3 | People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at
the Lord.
Not taking responsibility for your own actions is a big mistake. It causes more mistakes
with increasingly harder consequences as time goes on.
• J O B 1 0 :1 8 | “Why, then, did you deliver me from my mother’s womb? Why didn’t you let
me die at birth?”
• NU MB E R S 1 3 :2 7 -2 8 , 3 1 | This was their report to Moses: “We entered the land you sent us
to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here
is the kind of fruit it produces. But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are
large and fortified. We even saw giants there. . . . We can’t go up against them!”
• MAT T H E W 6 :3 0 | And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and
thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little
faith?
It is a mistake to assume God doesn’t care about you or want to help you.
• J O SH U A 8 :1 4 | When the king of Ai saw the Israelites across the valley, he and all his army

• PR O VE R B S 1 9 :2 | Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.
When you don’t know all the facts, you may overreact and make additional mistakes.
• 1 SA MU E L 1 3 :1 1 -1 3 | Samuel said, “What is this you have done?” Saul replied, “I saw

offering myself before you came.” “How foolish!” Samuel exclaimed.
• G E NE SI S 1 3 :1 0 -1 3 | Lot took a long look at the fertile plains of the Jordan Valley. . . .
The whole area was well watered everywhere. . . . Lot chose for himself the whole Jordan
Valley. . . . So Abram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot moved his tents to a place near
Sodom. . . . The people of this area were extremely wicked and constantly sinned against
the Lord.
When your choices are guided primarily by selfish ambition or a desire for physical fulfillment, it is more likely you will make a mistake.
• G E NE SI S 2 5 :2 9 -3 3 | One day when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau arrived home from
the wilderness exhausted and hungry. Esau said to Jacob, “I’m starved! Give me some of
that red stew!” . . . “All right,” Jacob replied, “but trade me your rights as the firstborn
son.” . . . So Esau swore an oath, thereby selling all his rights as the firstborn to his brother,
Jacob.
Allowing yourself to become physically unfit can cause you to make mistakes. Lack of
sleep, poor eating habits, or overwork to the point of exhaustion will make you more
vulnerable to poor decisions.
