Mercy & Grace continued
• E PH E S I A NS 2 :4 -5 | But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though
we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It
is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
• 1 P E T E R 1 :3 | All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy
that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live
with great expectation . . .
Mercy is the exemption from the punishment you deserve for your sins. But it is more: It is
receiving an undeserved gift—salvation being the greatest gift of all. Mercy is experiencing favor with almighty God when he forgives your sins and gives you the opportunity to
receive eternal life if you simply believe in him.
Where does mercy come from?
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 :3 | God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.
• H E B R E W S 4 :1 6 | Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive
his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Mercy is unique to God. When we show mercy, we reveal godliness, for he is the source
of mercy.
