What rights do husbands and wives have to each other’s body?
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 7 :3 | The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife
should fulfill her husband’s needs. (See note on page 1034.)
Husbands and wives do not completely own their own bodies. When they marry, each
spouse has a loving claim to the other’s body.
How can I show my affection for my spouse?
• E PH E S I A NS 5 :2 5 | For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.
He gave up his life for her.
Christ loved the church enough to die for it. Commit that your love for your spouse will be
as strong.
• SO NG O F S O NG S 7 :1 1 | Come, my love, let us go out to the fields and spend the night
among the wildflowers.
Spending time with one another communicates your level of affection for each other. Make
it a priority to find things you enjoy doing together.
• SO NG O F S O NG S 1 :9 | You are as exciting, my darling, as a mare among Pharaoh’s stallions.
Verbally express your affection for your spouse. Don’t concentrate on your spouse’s faults,
because this will cause him or her to focus on yours. Instead, find things to appreciate and
then express them. Your spouse will usually respond likewise.
• SO NG O F S O NG S 2 :4 | He escorts me to the banquet hall; it’s obvious how much he loves me.
Let others know how much you appreciate your spouse. Sometimes your spouse may
enjoy hearing it from others, but not as much as hearing it from you.
