Great Bible Stories
for Discovering God’s Truth
God chose to convey his truth in many different ways when he inspired Scripture. He gave
us songs in the book of Psalms, short and pithy wisdom sayings in the book of Proverbs,
powerful visions in the prophets, and heavy theological discussions in the New Testament
letters. But a large part of Scripture is told in the form of stories. In both the Old and New
Testaments, there are hundreds of stories that show us who God is, how he relates to us,
and how he wants us to live. These stories also show us what happens when we decide
to reject God and go our own way.
We usually remember details of stories really well, whether we read the story or listened
to it. Stories call us to do more than just think about truth. They help us to engage with the
truth in the context of real life. They help us to feel and instinctively know the truth. That’s
probably why Jesus did much of his teaching through telling stories and using everyday
illustrations. And the Gospel writers seem to have really enjoyed showing who Jesus is by
recounting what he did, rather than just recording what he said. Take some time to step
into these stories that God has given us.
