God’s Good Creation
God made the entire universe out of nothing. He transformed empty darkness into a place
full of life that shows us how powerful, creative, and loving he is.
We learn in Genesis that God created the concept of time by separating days from
nights. He created the sun, moon, and stars that shine on us. He created the sturdy
ground that we walk on and the trees and flowers that grow out of it. God created all the
fascinating creatures that swim in the seas, fly in the sky, and walk on the earth. And, most
importantly, God created Adam and Eve, the first humans, and gave them a beautiful place
to live called Eden.
Eden was filled with different kinds of plants, including the tree of life and the tree of
the knowledge of good and evil. God told Adam and Eve that they could eat fruit from
every tree except one. Only the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was off limits.
Unfortunately, Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command. As a consequence, they could
not live in the garden with him anymore.
But—spoiler alert!
God did not give up on
the people he had made. He had a plan that would
transform their hearts and bring them back to
live in a glorious new home with him. Just like the
Garden of Eden, this new home will have a tree of
life, and the tree of life will bring joy and healing to
all who believe in Jesus. What good news!
