Maybe a parent or another adult has told you to act
responsibly, and you wondered how to go about that. Or perhaps
you’ve told a parent that you’re ready for more responsibility.
Here’s how you can know and show others that you’re responsible:

Whether you get money through your allowance, as a gift, or by
getting paid for doing extra work, it’s important to take care of it.
Otherwise, it’ll be gone before you know it! If you learn how to manage
money, you’ll have it when you want or need it.
One way to manage your money is to divide it into these four categories:
Giving. Reserve a portion of your money to give to your church. You
James 1:5 says that God is generous and that he will give you
wisdom when you ask. Wisdom includes the ability to make good
choices, an important part of being responsible.

your church and other organizations that further God’s Kingdom is the
same as giving to God (see Matthew 25:35-40).
Long-term saving. Put some of your money aside for a large

never leave you (John 14:16-17). He helps you to be responsible
by guiding you, reminding you of the truth, and growing fruit like
love, joy, and peace within you (Galatians 5:22-23).
When you do something wrong, take responsibility for it. Don’t
blame others or make excuses. Tell God and the person you’ve
hurt what you’ve done and make things right (see James 5:16;
1 John 1:9).

Short-term saving.
Set aside some of your money for hobbies or
medium-size purchases.
Spending.
This is simply the cash that you want to carry
around to spend on snacks, supplies, and other
everyday expenses.
Words can help or hurt. Always think about what you are going
to say before you say it. Be quicker to listen than to speak (James
1:19). Once you say something, you can’t unsay it. And be aware
of your emotions. If you are upset, it’s better to keep quiet until
you have calmed down.

first. If you’re faithful with small things, you’ll be given more
responsibility. (Check out Jesus’ parable of the talents—Matthew
25:14-30.)
