Everybody agrees that Jesus was an incredible teacher. Hetold great stories, he asked tough questions, and he wasunpredictable. Even the people who didn’t like him werestunned and amazed at what he said. So what did he say? Here’s a short list of his teachings:Forgiveness—Our sin against God and othersis like a giant debt we can never, ever repay.God’s forgiveness means that he has canceledout that debt. Since we have been forgiven, weshould forgive others (Matthew 18:21-35).Prayer—This is not a complicated ritual, just anongoing conversation with the God who loves tobe with us (Matthew 6:5-15).God— God is like a dad who feels heartbrokenwhen his kids run away from home and whogreets them ecstatically when they return to him(Luke 15:11-32).The Holy Spirit—He is a Comforter, the Son of GodWHAT JESUS TAUGHTThe church—This is the number-one buildingproject of the one who grew up as a carpenter’sson (Matthew 16:18).Counselor, and Guide (just like Jesus), except helives in us and gives us the power to live as wewere meant to live (John 14:15-31; 16:5-15).Enemies—We should love them, pray for them, forgive them, and go so far as to treat them likefriends (Matthew 5:38-48).Divorce—Marriage is meant to last a lifetime, and it can and will if a husband and wife don’tlet their hearts get hard (Matthew 19:1-12).Religion—We can be extremely religious andMoney—Loosen your grip on it before it gripsyour heart (Matthew 6:19-24).moral and still be far from God. God wantsus to believe in him and trust him, not just do“churchy” activities. He wants us to give himour hearts (Matthew 15:8).Hell—Hell is real. Sadly, those who reject Godand his grace will end up in hell when they die, apart from God forever (Matthew 10:28; 23:33).4.44.5
