cross southern New Hampshire, stopping at
Quilted Threads, an eye-dazzling quilt and
needlework shop brimful of brilliant fabrics.
Cross into Vermont, admiring valley views
from the scenic overlook before lunch and
free time to shop in Woodstock’s galleries
and boutiques. Savor mountain views at the
Trapp Family Lodge, home for the next two
nights, and sample traditional German dishes
in their dining room. B D
DAY 4 STOWE – BURLINGTON – WATERBURY
Tour the historic buildings at the open-air
Shelburne Museum to see their exceptional
collection of historic handmade quilts. Twentyfive buildings, including the lighthouse, have
all been relocated to the museum grounds
and provide the backdrop while you enjoy
lunch on your own. Later, enjoy ice cream
and a factory tour at the incomparable
Ben & Jerry’s. B
DAY 5 STOWE – ESSEX JUNCTION – FREEPORT
Start the morning at the historic Vermont
Quilt Festival and admire the rows of
curated quilts. Browse the wares of local
quilt shops in the merchant mall before our
scenic drive through New England’s White
Mountains. After crossing New Hampshire,
arrive in Freeport, Maine, in time to settle in
for dinner on your own. B
DAY 6 FREEPORT – PORTLAND – YORK
Get your creative juices flowing at Cotton
Weeds Quilt Shop, a quilter’s dream of fabrics including hand-dyed batiks. Visit Maine’s
historic waterfront before free time for
lunch and exploring Portland. Later we
visit Knight’s Quilt Shop where rows of
high-quality quilting cottons are ready for
your latest project. Our scenic drive through
Kennebunkport, past Walker’s Point to
Foster’s Clam Bake sets the stage
for our lobster Farewell Dinner. B D
