Speech and Debate is a co-curricular, competitive performance class. Debate teaches
students how to participate in the rational exchange of ideas and arguments as they
relate to significant social issues. Speech events sharpen speaking and/or acting skills.
Students are required to perform in class and will have the opportunity to attend up to
eleven weekend competitions throughout the year (and expected to compete at two
tournaments, minimum). A portion of the student grade comes from attending and
recruiting judges for NHS’s home tournament and district competitions. NCAA Approved
