Checkology® Virtual Classroom
NewsLitCamp®
We will continue to make annual improvements
and additions to NLP’s signature curricular offering,
ensuring that it consistently meets impact and scale
metrics. By June 2022, we will reach the following
benchmarks of success:
We will continue to develop and expand NLP’s signature
professional development program, connecting local
school districts and media organizations to enhance
the educator training experience. By June 2022, we will
reach the following benchmarks of success for both
scale and impact:
Scale:
6,650 educators in all 50 states using Checkology
Premium annually
Student Impact:
METRIC 1: 70% of students recognize the standards of
quality journalism in practice.
METRIC 2: 70% of students understand the watchdog
role of a free press.
METRIC 3: 70% of students recognize the role and
importance of the First Amendment in
American democracy.
Scale:
Conduct 12 NewsLitCamps per year, training at least
720 educators annually, for a total of 2,500 educators
trained in NewsLitCamps from July 2018 to June 2022.
Impact:
METRIC 1: 90% of participants rate the training as
“good” or “excellent.”
METRIC 2: 80% of participants say they will implement
what they learned in their classroom
instruction.
METRIC 4: 70% of students acquire new information
verification skills and increase skeptical,
critical habits of mind.
METRIC 3: 80% say that they implemented something
they learned in a (reported four months after
their NewsLitCamp).
METRIC 5: 70% of students indicate plans to increase
their civic engagement.
Customized Professional Development
Educator Impact:
METRIC 1: 90% agree that the platform is designed to
meet metrics.
METRIC 2: 80% agree that the platform is as good as/
better than other platforms used.
METRIC 3: 80% state that they now integrate news
literacy skills into other courses they teach.
The Sift
®
By June 2022, we will increase our list to 15,000
subscribers, making The Sift the largest educatorfocused publication supporting the teaching of news
literacy in the United States.
We will develop and formalize our in-person and
virtual professional development offerings to schools
and districts. By 2022, we will reach the following
benchmarks of success for professional development

Impact:
