About Nelsen Corporation - History
Introduction & Reference
In the early 1950’s, Emil Nelsen was working at Alcoa as a
Stationary Engineer. He started selling part-time for a water
treatment dealer during the Cleveland area housing boom following
World War II. At 18 his son, Ron Nelsen, joined him as they sold,
serviced and installed water treatment and water well equipment.
In 1954, Emil and Ron started their own company Century
INTRO
Water Conditioning Company. Originally located in Emil Nelsen’s
residence in North Royalton, Ohio, operations were conducted
from an enclosed back-porch office and a small barn that served
as the warehouse. The company evolved from retail to wholesale
as submersible pumps began replacing the traditional working
head and jet pumps of the day. At that time pumps were sold
primarily through hardware wholesalers to hardware stores.
The wholesalers weren’t interested in selling submersibles or
providing the help dealer’s needed to install and service them. The
manufacturers of this new product had to find another way to the
market and were looking for companies interested in specializing
in the distribution of this
new technology. They
offered both inventory
and financial support. Ron expressed an interest, built relationships with other
manufacturers of water well related products and our wholesale business was born.
In 1956, the business was moved to a rented commercial building in North Royalton,
Ohio and then moved again in 1964 to a larger facility in Broadview Heights,
Ohio. This location allowed further expansion of wholesale sales to area
dealers. In 1975, the business moved to its present location in Norton, Ohio
and became 100% wholesale.
Today, Nelsen Corporation’s operation features over $10,000,000 in inventory
from more than 200 vendors. Our Arizona, Texas and Florida operations serve
the professional water treatment dealers located in the Southwest, South
Central and Southeast markets. While our company has seen substantial
growth over the years, Nelsen Corporation remains family-owned and
operated.
